Team Great Britain Heritage Announces Ladies’ Roster for 2018 WBHF Championships

Team Great Britain Heritage Announces Ladies’ Roster for 2018 WBHF Championships | WBDHF

We’re excited to see how the players handle their first time with Team Great Britain at the WBHF Championships. After assessing some of their moves at the Team Great Britain opening training camp, we’re confident that with the right training and guidance, they’ll be able to put on one hell of a show. At the training camp, Head Coach, Chad Asselstine said, “We’re proud of what we were able to put together in year one, and where we are going with it…” Having already coached the men’s 5-on-5 team at the championship games last year, we believe that Chad has taken away some valuable lessons about the international game and will be able and ready to adapt them in coaching the ladies’ team this June.

Unfortunately, Chad will no longer be able to rely on the help of Dick Price, who was originally slated to act as Head Coach of the ladies’ team this year. Due to an unforeseen family obligation, Dick will not be able to commit to the role of Head Coach. However, we’re sure that Chad is more than up to the task of guiding the Great Britain Heritage Ladies’ Team to victory. Chad has also assured us that should he require the assistance, he’ll be able to turn to Captain of the men’s team, Iain Downes, to help lighten the load. The strategy for the women’s team was always to mirror the men’s team in their training camp, preparation, and in-game strategies, and though Dick’s absence will mean more work on Chad’s plate, both teams having the same Head Coach will surely result in more parity in their play style.

Just because this will be our first look at these ladies during in the WBHF, doesn’t mean they’re rookies. We were

extremely impressed with the talent they brought to the opening training camp, and several players on the roster – including Carly Marino and Katrina Jegg – played in the winning team of the 2016 World Outdoor Ball Hockey Championship (WOBHC). Goalie Paula Hodgson is a ball hockey veteran as well, who has competed at the North American Ball Hockey Championship (NABHC), and the WOBHC.

The roster is looking impressive, but it’s not complete yet. There are still two spots to be filled, and interested parties can submit their application to General Manager, Dan Gilbert, by e-mail at dgilbert@ballhockeyinternational.com. Applicants must have British heritage (parents or grandparents from Great Britain).

Now that the rosters have been announced for the men’s and Ladies’ 5-on-5, we’re excited to bring you more news about this years’ WBHF Championships. Be sure to stay tuned to Team Great Britain’s Website, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for future updates.
